| REQUIREMENTS
Q: How do I determine my emergencyeyewash requirements?
OSHARegulations state: "Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed toinjurious corrosive chemicals, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shallbe provided withinthe work area for immediate emergency use."
Utilizingthe Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for every chemical used in your facilityprovides informationabout that chemical's potential health hazards. The MSDS also containsemergency and first aidprocedures to follow immediately after exposure, until medical help arrives.
Q: What information is available toassist in determining if a chemical is a hazard to the eye and the appropriatefirst aid requirements for that hazard?
Employersare required to identify and evaluate all chemicals used in the workplace. The supplierof eachchemical must provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), which will providefirst aid information.
Q: What are the most common eye injuryareas that require eyewash stations?
Painting Operations andSolvents BatteryCharging Stations Hazardous Chemical Storage Tool Parts Washers Chemical Pumping or MixingAreas Laboratories.
Q: What are the different types ofemergency eyewash units?
Plumbed: Permanentlyconnected to a source of potable water. Self-Contained, GravityFed: Contains its own flushing fluid. Self-Contained,Pressurized Units: Pressurized from an external source formobility/portability.
SPERIAN SALINE
Q: What is the difference between the SperianWater Additive and Sperian Saline Concentrate?
SperianSaline Concentrate creates a flushing fluid solution that is more compatiblewith the eye than water with an additive. Sperian Saline Concentrate contains aspecial preservative and additives to provide a cost effective solution foreyewash refills. When mixed in the proper ratio with potable (drinking) water,Sperian Saline Concentrate provides a preserved, buffered, saline solution. When mixed with potable water, Sperian WaterAdditive provides a buffered solution for use in self-contained eyewashdevices. Sperian Water Additive mixed with water is cost-effective, but doesnot removeor ameliorate particulates. Sperian Water Additive is non-toxic and non-irritatingin the recommendedconcentration.
Q: Are my contact lenses safe after aneye flush with Sperian Saline?
Notfor use with contact lenses. Please remove lenses prior to use.
Q: The pH level of human tears is 7.4.What is the pH level of Sperian Saline?
ThepH range of Sperian Saline is 6.9 to 7.4.
Q: Can I use Sperian SalineConcentrate or Fend-all Water Additive in a competitor's product?
Yes.
Q: Can I use Sperian Saline solutionsafter they expire?

Q: Why is there and expiration date and can I use the productafter it expires?Emergency Eyewash solutions (concentrate, additive, sterile or purifiedsaline, eyesaline) are regulated as drug products by the U.S. Food and DrugAdministration and equivalent organizations in other countries. Expiration dates are based upon the stabilityrequirements and regulations established for these solutions. A manufacturer establishes an expiration datefor a product based on data derived from testing of that product. Use of a product beyond its expiration datecould mean that the product no longer retains its effectiveness, or it couldlead to illness or death in extreme cases.
Certain containers, such as bottles and bags, contain materials thatcould leech into the product over a period of time beyond expiration. The solution itself is stable, but thecontainer holding that solution could present a problem.
